Pop des Fleurs was originally conceived by Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh member, Annette Sandberg. The idea was born during the cold and dreary Pittsburgh winter of 2013-2014. Annette was trying to remember how her friends and family had remained up-beat and connected during long, cold winters in her birthplace, Norway. The image that came to mind, was her family home filled with flowers and candles, and warm conversations in front of the fireplace.
Remembering the joy and connection she experienced through the Knit the Bridge project, Annette imagined how much fun it would be to bring delight to Pittsburghers by creating huge flower displays that could be installed around the city during the cold and gray season. With the help of her daughter Shine, she came up with the name Pop des Fleurs. Annette shared this idea with friends, and as the enthusiasm for the project grew, Pop des Fleurs was selected as a Community Outreach Project of the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh’s Fiberart International 2016
